In the early hours of this morning, I directed our Armed Forces to intercept a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to pass through the English Channel. This successful operation delivers yet another blow to Russia and reminds those fueling Putin's war in Ukraine that we will not let them hide. I want to thank those involved, including our Armed Forces and law enforcement officers who keep this country safe 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Forty four years on from the end of the Falklands war, we reflect on the incredible efforts and sacrifices made by our city to protect British civilians overseas. From the dock workers who prepared the South Atlantic Task Force at speed, to the service personnel who both risked and sadly gave their lives to defend Britons, we all owe them an incredible debt. The @portsmouthuni’s extreme environments laboratories help the country understand, evaluate and enhance people's comfort, performance and survival in extreme environments such as high altitudes, humid jungles and rough seas. Regularly used by organisations such as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the RNLI, I encouraged visiting the labs to meet the dedicated team behind these world-leading facilities based in our city.

The BMA has called off the unnecessary resident doctor strikes which were due to start on Monday 15 June. This is good news for patients, staff and the NHS. We'll work with the BMA over the coming days to finalise the details of the deal before it is put to their members.

Portsmouth Football Club are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Kenny Jackett, who passed away yesterday at the age of 64. Kenny will be missed by everyone at Pompey and throughout the football family. Our thoughts are with all his loved ones at this sad time.

We're delivering 2,500,000 more NHS dentist appointments - and the biggest sustained increase in dental school places since 2007, with a dental school in every region. Lots done, lots more to do on NHS Dentistry - incl. reforming dental contract - but we're making progress.
