One reads with a mixture of weary amusement and mounting disgust that the sum total of official response to this squalid episode is the sacking of the two ruffians in question. How very progressive. How thoroughly modern.
These contracted enforcement officers — men entrusted with a modicum of public authority — are recorded on video first extinguishing their own body-worn cameras (one explicitly confirms “It’s off”) before unleashing a torrent of credible threats: “When I’m not in uniform, I’m gonna knock you the f*** out and rip your teeth out… If I give you one punch I’ll knock all your teeth out… throw you through the f****** walls… Come to the alleyway right now, we’re gonna show you what time it is.”
The stated motive? The citizen was “trying to butt in with our money.” The excuse offered? “We’ve got people to feed.” And, for good measure, the reassuring claim that if they called the police, the officer would “f*** you up” because “we work with them.”
One struggles to recall a more perfect illustration of the inversion that has overtaken parts of our public life: petty authority figures, confident enough in their impunity to switch off the recording devices meant to constrain them, then menacing an ordinary Englishman about his livelihood while invoking police collusion.
Sacking these fellows may salve the consciences of
@harrow_council and Kingdom Services Group. It does not constitute justice. In English law, threats to cause grievous bodily harm, whether uttered in the heat of the moment or after calculated preparation, remain criminal
@metpoliceuk. The deliberate disabling of evidential equipment only compounds the matter. A jury of twelve good men and true would, one ventures, have little difficulty discerning intent.
If these individuals are British citizens, let them face the courts and, upon conviction, such sentence as the gravity of their conduct warrants — including time behind bars. If they are not, then after due process and any custodial term, deportation follows as night follows day. Either way, the notion that administrative dismissal alone suffices is an insult to every law-abiding subject.
Anything less merely confirms that we have normalised the thug in uniform while the decent man is left to film his own intimidation.
Yours in the profoundest contempt for such conduct,
A Gentleman from the Old School
