Smoke may be visible in the San Gabriel Valley, especially in the foothill communities of Glendora, San Dimas, and La Verne. Prescribed fires reduce overgrown vegetation to protect communities, infrastructure, and natural resources from wildfires.

Quick Initial Attack and Unified Response Holds San Bernardino Vegetation Fire to Under Four Acres  Today at 11:45 a.m., San Bernardino County Fire responded to reports of smoke in the area of E. Daley Canyon Road and North Chiquita Lane in the City of San Bernardino. The first arriving units located a vegetation fire burning in light to medium fuels with a moderate rate of spread. Firefighters immediately initiated a direct attack and worked aggressively to establish hose lines around the fire perimeter. Due to the quick actions of initial attack crews and strong coordination between responding agencies, the forward progress of the fire was stopped and held to 3.63 acres. Crews remained on scene throughout the afternoon conducting mop-up operations and reinforcing containment lines. No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by San Bernardino County Fire’s Office of the Fire Marshall. SAN BERNARDINO: #SBCoFD is on-scene of a VEGETATION FIRE in the area of E. Daley Canyon Rd. & N. Chiquita Ln. Fire is holding at approximately 2-3 acres with a hose line around the fire. In Unified Command with @SanBernardinoNF as #FoothillIC.

The Sandy Fire is now 90% contained with 107 firefighters remaining assigned to the incident. Please see the attached map. The suppression cycle continues as firefighters utilize infrared drones during nighttime operations to identify remaining hotspots. During the day, firefighters hike into rugged terrain to locate and fully extinguish those hotspots.
