In the Kimberley region of WA, local Halls Creek artist Gaven Stretch has been busy of late turning this graffiti-covered wall into a spectacular mural.
Gaven's creation has only come to life with the help of young people lending a hand.
In good news, SRWA has already identified evidence based principles and a path forwards for WA’s youth justice system that we can use as a blueprint for reform.

Yet another incredibly alarming self harm incident has occurred inside Unit 18 – where WA children are held at Casuarina maximum-security adult prison.
We’re choosing not to share the details of this incident as the content revealed in The Australian is highly distressing
- Raise the age of criminal responsibility to at least 14 years old, to keep primary school kids in community.
- Introduce a trauma-informed and therapeutic, collaborative model-of-care with community experts and Aboriginal leaders.
- Create a whole-of-government youth justice strategy to support children and families in the community.
- Create an independent inquiry that enables truth telling.
