🇦🇫 Sky News’ Yalda Hakim highlights footage of Taliban forces opening fire Tuesday on a protest in the western Afghan city of Herat, where men and women had gathered against the arrest of women over dress code violations. Eyewitnesses said the Taliban shot at demonstrators and beat them with sticks, according to AP. About 70 to 150 people had gathered, chanting “education, work, and freedom.” The arrests followed Friday sermons ordering women not to leave home without full hijab. The UN said Taliban’s morality police had detained around 30 women and girls in Herat in recent days.

Afghan Talliban forces used gunfire to disperse a women’s rights protest in the western city of Herat on June 9 after residents demonstrated against the recent arrest of women accused of violating the Taliban's mandatory dress code. One eyewitness told RFE/RL’s @DaRadioAzadi that at least one person was killed and several people were injured. Taliban authorities did not confirmed any casualties or arrests.
