A record 3 #WhiteTailedEagle chicks have fledged in the wild in England this summer including the first in Dorset for over 240 years! The chicks were reared by eagles released by @ForestryEngland & @RoyDennisWF in our project to return this lost speciesšŸ¦… bit.ly/4mwTz53

So, I've just spent a bit of time looking into the debate on IHT and farming. I... got a shock. First, a note: I have a friend who runs a family farm. In his view, the whole thing is a something and nothing. 🧵

A great step in the right direction for wetlands and river corridors in #Wales - not just for wildlife but for people. Important now to not faff around too long with getting legal protection in place and properly managed releases in place. We know what to and where to do it.
🌟We’re over the moon that the Welsh government gives thumbs up to beavers in Wales! 🐾 (1/2) wtwales.org/news/welsh-gover…

Really important research from @DaveGoulson. There are really effective herbal solutions for dog fleas, as there are for lice in human hair. Why poison our pets, us, our natural water systems and the environment? All these chemicals need to be challenged.
Replying to @DaveGoulson
Both imidacloprid (a neonic) and fipronil are now found in the large majority of English rivers. Our research shows that owners washing their hands after contact with pets is a significant contributor. Washing bedding or bathing dogs also contributes. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Happy #WorldWetlandsDay! šŸ’§ Covering <1% of the earth's surface, wetlands contain nearly 12% of all biodiversity - and beavers can help supercharge these habitats. A study by @StirUni found the number of species in beaver-created wetlands was 50% greater than in other wetlands!

Great to see this around urban areas. Time for some of this in Wales! @TirNatur @NatResWales @WelshGovernment @SeneddWales

A great graph of predicted solar PV additions Vs where we've actually got to! Everything happens in exponentials people.
Nice "new" visualization of solar growth versus predictions ;-) ht @baumanns

Well worth a watch. This is why I am also optimistic for the future. I call it maths based optimism! There is already so much good stuff happening.
My @TEDTalks is now online. I argue that we have the opportunity to build a world where we can all live well, and tackle our environmental problems at the same time. This is possible, but not inevitable. We have to push to make that a reality. ted.com/talks/hannah_ritchie…

Very true. Housebuilding lobby needs to be put in its place on its environmental impacts. And start building council houses using publicly owned companies so we aren't relying on big private housebuilders to build houses for us.
When it comes to screwing us over, the housebuilders have form. The 2007 Code for Sustainable Homes required ALL new homes to be zero carbon by 2016. After lobbying the Conservatives scrapped it, leaving new homeowners with huge heating bills. businessgreen.com/news/30724…

'Our historical ability to wipe out life does NOT render it alien to our shores.' šŸ‘šŸ˜€ A wonderful thread on a keystone species that benefits wildlife and farming. Disgrifiad hyfryd o rywogaeth sydd o fudd i fywyd gwyllt a ffermio.
1. This is a thread about the most powerful bird of all: a Guardian Giant. It’s essential to the recovery of nature – and could help farmers and landowners too. This thread explains how Eagle-owls could transform Britain: our island's most important avian keystone species.

This whole thread is excellent and quite eye opening. Private water companies environmentally insolvent.
There has been much discussion about the likely failure of Thames Water in the last day or so. I’ve been looking at the accounts of England’s water companies for the last twenty years. My conclusion is that they are all environmentally insolvent. So, a thread…..

Completely agree, food banks not the answer. Not food poverty - just poverty. Food cost not the cause of poverty can't change food prices. Drivers are low wages, a crap social security system, and costs of housing, energy, comms, and public transport. theguardian.com/society/2023…

This is why I'm very optimistic for the future. I call it maths based optimism! We just need to stop finding excuses not to do things so we can enable a faster decarbonisation transition. Ask, what's the risk of not doing this? Rather than, what's the risk of doing this?
The renewables revolution is unfolding live, fast and furiously. "It's exponential, global, and this decade": look at the data and do the math THREAD

Totally agree with all this. Here's what we could do - very gradually bring mortgage limits back to max 3x salary. It is the relaxation of mortgage limits that allowed house prices to inflate. In parallel bring in more social housing, and rent regulation. theguardian.com/commentisfre…
