Yes the Lebanese military court keeps cracking against political activists, but it looks like the Lebanese political class is giving "reassurances" to Hezbollah that they can "integrate" back in Lebanese political life normally, in return for "handing back their weapons to the Lebanese state". Exactly. History in the last 70 years have proved that Muslim Leadership in Lebanon (both Shia and Sunni) have chosen to follow regional projects favourable to the sect rather than the country. And they want to impose on all Lebanese their politics, who are the enemis and who are the traitors, and ultimately, remove any non-muslim role in decision making (the calls for "secularism" and all that). So Lebanon becomes a constant underlying sectarian struggle, compromise (negotiated middle ground), and battlefield for regional wolves, not a country with strong institutions and sovereignty. The "unified identity" that Greater Lebanon tried to establish didn't really work. Because these groups want contradicting things. #Federalism is made for these sort of situations, and can be a way to allow each group to preserve their autonomy, distinct culture and their foundational human right of self-determination.
