With the start of our focus on DNA, we transformed ourselves into the individual nucleotides that combine to form the polymer structure. Base pairs, hydrogen bonds, covalent bonds and antiparallel strands all represented. #RHSScience #DNA🧬 @RHSRaiders @dentonisd

Mrs. Woodard’s #Chemistry classes enjoyed the nice weather this last week and took their lesson over Bohr models of atomic structure outside. #RHSScience #BohrModel @RHSRaiders @dentonisd

Finding change in mass and egg circumference after soaking in a hypertonic corn syrup solution for 24-48 hours. Now to explain why and how the change happened before switching the egg to a new solution of distilled water and another 48 hour soak. To be continued… 🥚

We have been living in the land of #Photosynthesis this week reinforcing the process in a variety of ways with diagrams, pictures, demonstrations and even song. 🎵 The second half of my Cellular Energy Song will debut next week. #RHSScience @RHSRaiders @dentonisd

Putting it all together…Understanding the cycle between the two processes and the energy conversions that take place. Hear it, write it, say it, sing it, draw it…understand it! ☀️💧💨🌳🌾🍞⚡️ #Photosynthesis #CellularRespiration #RHSScience @RHSRaiders @dentonisd

Simple demonstration in class showing oxygen as a product of photosynthesis. Pictures are from initial setup, 24 and 48 hours later. Captured bubble of oxygen is visibly growing from elodea plant under funnel.

Introducing the concept of enzymes today with a lab focused on bromelain, (found in pineapples) and how it impacts gelatin. 🍍 Great to hear students discovering the concept of denatured enzymes on their own with canned vs fresh. #RHSScience #Enzymes @RHSRaiders @dentonisd

Mr. French’s Biology classes started learning about lipids today and their function in forming the cell membrane. Followed that up with building the membrane on their class wall cell model. Will be fun to see the model grow through the year. #RHSScience @RHSRaiders @dentonisd
