As India celebrates #12YearsOfNariShakti, a historic milestone has been achieved in the nation’s journey towards women-led development and empowerment. For the first time, 9 women cadets have passed out from the Indian Military Academy and been commissioned as officers in the Indian Army, after being part of the first-ever batch of women cadets inducted into the National Defence Academy in August 2022. President Droupadi Murmu reviewed the passing out parade of the 158th Regular Course and the 141st Technical Graduate Course at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. The President said that as Army officers, the officer cadets will be responsible for leading, guiding and caring for the soldiers. The President said that the presence of nine women cadets at the passing out parade is a watershed moment in the history of IMA. It is not only a milestone in the history of India’s defence forces but also an inspiring example of India’s march towards women-led development. The President said that the presence of foreign cadets at IMA reflects India's commitment to fostering friendship, cooperation and peaceful relations with countries across the world.

The Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, presently serving as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, as the next Chief of the Army Staff in the substantive rank of General with effect from the afternoon of 30 June 2026. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy and an Armoured Corps officer, Lt Gen Seth brings with him nearly four decades of distinguished service, marked by extensive command, staff and strategic appointments across diverse operational and institutional domains.
