An infamous prison farm. A great river in flood. A mysterious religious colony. Through them all, 13-year- old Samuel searches for his father in a Father Quest of antiquity updated to early-20th c. Mississippi. #PitBLK #A #Litfic

This seems like both a wise and a compassionate approach.

I'm not seeing how this was implied. What am I missing? It's been a long day. Maybe I'm just tired, hence my reading comprehension is low right now?
I had to withdraw from the PEN World Voices Festival. The last straw from me was the tweet below, which implies that anyone who chooses to be a part of PEN is tacitly agreeing that PEN aligns with their values and advocacy. This comes after many private messages from PEN.(Thread)

I am an apostle of the fiction writer Edwards P. Jones. And he is my fiction Christ.

How come this discourse about whether a poet is any good never involves a prominent male poet?
This is the best piece I've read so far on the whole Mary Oliver discussion (actually, surprisingly, not a poet I knew at all apart from a single poem before the last week or two). commonreader.co.uk/p/is-mary…

Trying something new with a story. I don't know whether it's really good or really bad. Very unlikely that it's in the middle. I guess I'll know once I put it away for a couple of months. Writing is weird.

What's heaven? Heaven is finding an old NYer in your bookshelf containing an Edward P. Jones story you haven't read yet.

Got some cash for snacks for kids learning in juvenile detention?
Updates! 1. At the girls request, I extended the series so THIS Weds is our last class. 2. I got permission to bring books food! 3. The cost of 16 books, donuts, candy is gonna run me between $215 and $250. Would love community support for this. $AjanaeDawkins on cashapp.

Billionaire hedge fund investor Bill Ackman was among the most vociferous and morally preening critics of Harvard President Claudine Gay. He lambasted her for failing to take antisemitism seriously. 1/x

The amount of homophobia surfacing in the Black community, particularly among lovers of hip-hop, surrounding the Diddy stories is staggering. Discussions of alleged abuse of power is one thing. You don't need to mix in homophobia with it.

I'm happy to share that I was accepted by two MFA programs: University of Alabama and University of Tennessee creative writing programs in poetry. Getting accepted into an MFA program means that I have the chance to further learn more about what I love to do best; writing.

Seeing the stark difference between the average number of fertility days for men and women in a lifetime really puts the greater burden that women typically carry for birth control (or fertility management) in perspective. Sharing the Burden open.substack.com/pub/audaci…

I have a vision of a group called the Metheny Mays. Lyle Mays was such an integral part of the Pat Metheny Group that the name feels like if the Beatles had been called The John Lennon Band. Just feels unbalanced.

This note seemed too personal at first, but on second thought, it seems very practical, though a rather elite problem to have... chronicle.com/article/speaki… ... philosopherscocoon.typepad.c… ... hbr.org/2018/05/how-much-sho…
