In our conversation with @PhilipJohnston, CEO and Co-founder of @Starcloud_, we dug into how the operating costs of space-based data centers could end up being much cheaper.
Terrestrial data centers pay for land, deal with years of permitting, and rely on batteries backup power because solar is intermittent and goes through the atmosphere.
In space, none of that applies. No land cost. No storage needed. And solar panels can run almost continuously at much higher efficiency.
The biggest barrier is the cost of actually launching the satellites into orbit, which is getting cheaper every year.
