There was a regression with 3.9.18/.19 which crashed with early 24H2 builds. If you're not into Windows Updates, better sit on 23H2 😓

Next step: EU mandate for movable taskbars🤔
Fortnite creator Tim Sweeney and Elon Musk want Microsoft to bring back the vertical taskbar and stop forcing the Microsoft account in Windows 11. Microsoft is facing the heat as the company keeps pushing Copilot and other AI features. Recently, Microsoft confirmed it’s adding “Ask Copilot” to the Windows 11 taskbar. It’s also testing “agentic” features for the operating system. Microsoft’s Windows boss has promised the company deeply cares about power users and is listening to feedback.

Did you know? APPXBUNDLE/MSIXBUNDLEs are somewhat special kinds of zip archive - Windows Update service can download last ~64KB to decode central directory/manifest/digital signature which it uses to verify/download only parts of the zip file for target architecture, for example.

Who the heck needs this. Why not allow dropping on taskbar icons to share? Like StartAllBack could.
Microsoft is experimenting with a new file sharing UI in Windows 11: the "Drag Tray". When dragging a file, the tray shows up at the top of the screen with a drag here to share hint and lists a few apps. Has a more options button to open the share sheet. (hidden, Beta 22635.4805)

One more bizzare 24H2 thing: Battery Saver was replaced with Energy Saver and none of the previous api (GUID_POWER_SAVING_STATUS/SYSTEM_STATUS_FLAG_POWER_SAVING_ON/Windows.System.Power.EnergySaverStatus) work.

New public API is GUID_ENERGY_SAVER_STATUS. This backward savage breaking change is I guess not to break apps not expecting battery saver not on battery? Hint: there are no such apps. However: there's a lot of code in Windows itself expecting old API to work.

StartAllBack 3.9 with plump taskbar is out! This was a very intensive year with a lot of development, resulting in fully recreated and much improved classic taskbar. Show must go on. What would you like to see in 4.0?

24H2 issues with screen jitter seems to be finally resolved (?). If you upgrade, make sure you run latest StartAllBack version.

if you're on Windows 11 I'd highly recommend upgrading to the 24H2 update that dropped today. It's a full OS swap, and there's a lot of work under the hood to make the OS feel more responsive on a variety of hardware theverge.com/2024/10/1/24258…

Unfortunately screen artifacts are still there. Maybe each 1/10 time opening any Win32 dialog. It's definitely wasn't the case before 24H2. Are everyone selectively blind or just don't care and have ultra-performant 240fps screens?
