Unrepresented supervisor scientists won a like-work like-pay lawsuit in 2014. Rank-and-file scientists represented by a union are prohibited from a similar action by law. Public agencies suffer as @CalHR refuses to acknowledge the 2014 decision applies to rank and file scientists

Four years ago I inherited a site from a retiring male engineer. Now I’m leaving and a new male engineer is getting the site. Except today I was notified the site’s “too complicated” and instead going to a female scientist.

Because Gavin Newsom and his admin continue to deny any meaningful recognition of state scientists through a fair contract, I have honestly looked at Amtrak- fulfilling some childhood dreams of mine.
And their latest contract win has me looking at my job alerts with them again.

Amtrak workers just won the largest wage increase in the agency’s 53-year history.
On board workers will get a 34% pay raise over 7 years—retroactive to 2022.
An average worker will make $80K more over the life of the contract.
They’ll also get 10 weeks paid parental leave.
