Auschwitz Survivors commemorated the 86th anniversary of the deportation of the first group of Polish prisoners to the camp. This moment marked the beginning of the operation of this German Nazi concentration camp, which later became also an extermination center.

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1975 the Daily Courier reported Franco Harris being honoured as the "Super Man" of Super Bowl IX. Harris had already been awarded the MVP honour after a game that saw the #Steelers win their first Lombardi trophy with a 16-6 victory.

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1970 The News-Item went with the image of the carpet layers preparing Three Rivers Stadium with Tartan Turf while the Wausau Daily Herald printed the welcoming news that our Rocky was due to be discharged the following month.

"It was fun playing at Three Rivers (with Green Bay). It was great getting in that game and having my family there watching me play in my hometown. I also played against the Maulers when I was with Philadelphia Stars in the USFL. That’s when they had Cliff Stoudt and Mike Rozier."

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1973 the Lebanon Daily News printed Jack Ham's prediction the #Steelers would win the Super Bowl. Ham may have been a year too early in his forecast but it confirmed the growing confidence in the team with their continued advancement under Coach Noll.

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1942 newspapers revealed Art Rooney's plan to ensure he could field a #Steelers team in World War 2. Led by Bill Dudley who was the #NFL's leading rusher that season before he donned an Army Air Corp uniform, the team had their best season at 7-4.

#OTD in #SteelersHistory 1933 the Sun-Telegraph revealed that in the #Steelers first year in the #NFL owner Art Rooney was facing problems recruiting players for his team. The NFL draft wasn't introduced until 1936 with strong encouragement from Bert Bell and Mr. Rooney.
