When I published my report last week on how AI will change access to care, I embellished what Verily is doing as a directional example of using a chatbot as a patient acquisition strategy. But General Medicine just nails it here.

Got to riff on a strong belief of mine with @techguy: its a smart business decision for payers to make their reimbursement policies more transparent to providers and minimize denials. Make it easy for providers to get paid in exchange for slightly lower reimbursements rates.

Always surprised when I ask a provider if they're in-network and they can't answer / put it on me to call my insurance co. Have to imagine they lose patient volume... Do they not know if they're carved out of a specific group plan even if in-network with the payer broadly?

I mean...the answer is that they haven't connected the contracting data to the patient intake tool that the receptionist / call service rep has access too. But it all lives in the EMR, no? I'm surprised that the business case to build that out hasn't been big enough.

What's it called when tech simultaneously can simplify complexity but also enables much, much more complexity? Working on a thesis that this is what's happened in healthcare billing

Disappointed to see that @wmfrd is balance billing me for my son's hospital ride. But a good lesson in here for anyone who get's a bill for an ambulance ride that seems high. And hoping Fire Chief Don Lombardi and @Wendi4Mayor put an end to a pretty scammy billing practice...

This will all work out for my family --> I called @UHC and they'll follow-up with @wmfrd and negotiate away the balance bill. But I only called b/c I've worked in healthcare for the past 15 years. My wife, like most ppl., would've just paid the full bill.

Likely there's no mal-intent here and Fire Chief Don Lombardi and @LakewoodCOgov Mayor @Wendi4Mayor don't realize their billing systems are automated to balance bill the people of Lakewood. Let's fix this and save other Lakewood families the stress and financial burden!
