This was the right move and we'll chat more about it during this weekend's Livestream when we take a look at the Spiffy patch.
Last week we said we were considering restricting non-Commodore FPGA firmware on the Commodore 64 Ultimate, to avoid Commodore covering free support or replacements for machines damaged by unsupported mods - basically our version of a bricked jailbroken iPhone.
We listened. We agree. No FPGA lockdown.
Instead: clear disclaimer, free experimentation, just no free support/replacement for bricked modded units.
Commodore is the community, and the community is Commodore. Happy Flashing!

Thought I would share my history with GEOS to celebrate the 40th. Anyone else use the fabulous C128 version?
Had the 128 version and it was my word processor and used it extensively for engineering and physics labs reports. Including free body diagrams won me great favor with my profs. One had an Amiga 1000 and was amazed at what I could do with the C128.

Weโve lost an old friend of Commodore.
Hedley Davis, Senior Design Engineer, helped shape part of what many of us still love about this machine era: from the famous spinning globe REU demo that stunned CES in 1985, to engineering work on C64 peripherals and early Amiga systems.
His work was part of the fabric of Commodoreโs story; thoughtful, technical, and quietly influential.
We honor his contribution, and send our condolences to all who knew him, worked with him, and loved him.
