For weeks now I've been absolutely hooked on watching @MaphraMusic videos. Listening is one thing but watching her video performances just something different. For the first time she's covering a track I've never heard and she still blows me away youtube.com/watch?v=M1IZdScI…

Watching Resident Evil (2002) and chuckling to myself how the "Red Queen" AI felt so futurist back then and now it seems rather mundane

After almost 2 weeks of messing around with @openclaw using only locally hosted models on my little Nvidia 3080 card, I paid for a month of Minimax's coding plan ($34 NZD). MIND. BLOWN. Some of the small problems I've had with the config were all solved in minutes.

Today, while doing my grocery shopping, I could brainstorm an idea and have it write up and gather ideas. Reply to the message using voice dictation on my phone and now I've got a full document to review when I get home.

Yes, I understand the security concerns with @openclaw and I also know not to give it access to sensitive info. Right, Telegram and Discord linking has been sufficient for basic lookups and kicking of small projects.

My newest form of recreation online: When a website pops up an AI Chat Bot asking if it can help me, I ask: "If Pinocchio told you his nose would grow at any second, would he be lying?" Then I sit back and watch the wheels spin 🤣

If you are a software engineer "experiencing some degree of mental health crisis", now hear this, because I've been coding for 50 years since the days of punched cards and I have a salutary kick in your ass to deliver. Get over yourself. Every previous "programming is obsolete" panic has been a bust, and this one's going to be too. The fundamental problem of mismatch between the intentions in human minds and the specifications that a computer can interpret hasn't gone away just because now you can do a lot of your programming in natural language to an LLM. Systems are still complicated. This shit is still difficult. The need for people who specialize in bridging that gap isn't going to go away. As usual, the answer is: upskill yourself and adapt. If a crusty old fart like me can do it, you can too.
I don't know why this week became the tipping point, but nearly every software engineer I've talked to is experiencing some degree of mental health crisis.

Dear @ICC, It is with a heavy heart that we now announce our unavailability to replace Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Regardless of whether they now withdraw, the short timescales ensure it is impossible for our squad to prepare in the professional manner necessary to compete effectively in this global cricketing spectacle. We are not like Scotland and able to turn up on a whim, with no kit sponsor. Our players are from all walks of life and cannot simply drop their occupations to fly halfway around the world to experience temperatures only normally felt in Finnish saunas. Our captain, a professional baker, needs to attend to his oven, our ship captain needs to steer his vessel, and our bankers need to go bankrupt (again). This is the harsh reality of cricket at the amateur level of the game. This news will be extremely disappointing to our fans. Despite being the most peaceful nation on Earth, we maintain an army of online followers, and are the world's 14th most followed national board on X. We were ready to give the Dutch the biggest shock they have experienced since William of Orange lost the Battle of Landen in 1693. And the Americans were looking forward to taking on Greenland, or so their orange-dyed leader thought. Our loss is likely Uganda's gain. We wish them well. Their kits cannot be missed unless you have epilepsy, in which case they are probably best avoided. The future is always ice, until it isn't. Yours sincerely, Icelandic Cricket Association

When this movie came out, people I know said it was a terrible movie. My take was, and still is, that this should be seen as a warning and not entertainment. The "left" vs "right" politics needs to end or, at a minimum, move away from demonizing each other youtu.be/aDyQxtg0V2w?si=gFlG…

I cannot believe I am writing this. Vince Zampella, a titan of the video game industry, the co-creator of Call of Duty and co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, not to mention a dear friend, died in a car crash yesterday in Los Angeles.

On Monday I was complaining about my workload, much of it self-imposed. Then I found out about good people I know losing their jobs due to their roles being made redundant. Today I found out that someone else I know is in hospital with cancer. Clearly I have nothing to complain about.

Crazy few days at work, silly long hours but having fun trying to solve problems. Less fun realizing that I forgot about some events I wanted to attend. Onwards though, exciting week ahead 🤘

Just finished watching Thunderbolts* again. For me, it's one of the better Marvel movies in general. It's also one of my favourite representations of Depression.

I resonate with this, although I'd never labeled it "vague thinking" 🤔
The single biggest cause of vague thinking is avoidance. You can waste years in passive mode ruminating on problems that could be solved with one day of specific focus. If you stare into vagueness hard enough, specificity stares back into you.
