Retired Police Dog Tomi, who proudly served with the Ministry of Defence and retired in 2024, was rushed to the vets this morning and is currently undergoing emergency surgery after suffering gastric torsion, a life-threatening condition that requires immediate surgery.
Pictured here on his final day of service at Portsmouth Dockyard, Tomi gave years of loyal and dedicated service. Like so many retired police dogs, he is not afforded a pension in retirement, despite the invaluable contribution he made throughout his working life.
We have therefore stepped in to ensure he receives the urgent care he needs and will be funding the cost of his surgery in full, at an estimated cost of around £4,000.
Today, our focus is entirely on Tomi and his recovery. We know that many of you have followed and supported our retired police dogs over the years, so we ask that you join us in keeping Tomi in your thoughts and prayers, and in wishing him strength, comfort and a speedy recovery.
We will provide an update on Tomi’s progress later this evening. 💙🚔🇬🇧🫶🐶
