I’d wondered whether, being visually impaired, I’d enjoy watching dance. Experiencing @Stopgapdance’s show Lived Fiction - with integrated access key to every element - was a revelation. Here’s the piece I wrote about my window into dance: theguardian.com/stage/2024/n…

Our house Network Day panel discussion Creating meaningful connections digitally, has been fascinating. Digital content can ‘give audiences ownership of their choices’ to access work and ‘connect audiences who may feel disconnected from traditional venues’.

Making events accessible for deaf people isn’t just about performing interpretations. Improving accessibility requires venues and promoters to make decisions sooner, work together and provide clear information. This helps deaf audiences know if an event has BSL access without waiting or guessing. At @PerformInterp, we are working hard to support the industry in making events open and welcoming for everyone. We want deaf audiences to feel included, respected, and informed. Together, we are improving access and experience. Watch our founder, Marie Pascall, on @BBCMorningLive with @YvonneCobbYumma. Part 2/2 Visit @BBCiPlayer [Morning Live - Series 6: 25/10/2024 @ 55:00] to watch the full segment, including interviews with @DeafRave, and learn more on the latest developments in live event accessibility! #Deaf #PerformanceInterpreting #DeafAwareness #BBCMorningLive #YvonneCobb #DeafCommunity #BSL #Accessibility #InclusiveEvents #InclusivityMatters #MusicInterpreting #SignLanguage #LiveEvents #DeafRave #ImmersiveExperience #Interpretation #SignLanguageInterpreting #BSLInterpreter #ISLInterpreter #BreakingBarriers #Inclusivity #EmpoweringVoices #PerformanceArt #AccessibleEntertainment

In @FrankRGardner's own words: This is 2024, and I find it extraordinary that an airline is allowed to fly in and out of British airports with a policy that effectively says ‘if you can’t walk, you can’t go to the toilet on our planes’. #RightsOnFlights #EndAbleism
'It's inhumane.. sort it out' BBC journalist Frank Gardner told #BBCBreakfast he had to crawl to the loo on a flight from Warsaw to London because the Polish airline LOT does not have on board wheelchairs bbc.co.uk/news/disability

This is such important research and something that’d largely go unreported if it wasn’t for disabled media, such as Access All. It’s a double stigma: non-disabled authorities think it’s entirely normal to treat disabled people this way - and many non-disabled journalists do too.
Imagine being 40 and being sent to bed at 5pm - or being 50 or 60 and not allowed in your kitchen in the evening to get yourself a drink That's the reality for many middle aged learning-disabled people as researchers from Manchester Metropolitan University discovered
