We are horrified by Brian Pallister & Alan Lagimodiere trying to defend Residential Schools. This system was made to violently assimilate Indigenous peoples. That a government could defend this practice, especially in light of the recoveries of unmarked graves, is appalling.

I appreciate this thread. Being an out educator for a decade has brought gifts & huge costs. Usually, I only share the gifts. One ugly truth of many-death threats required a safety plan at work & a quick response support plan with police. I will never be the same from the hate.
I wish you all knew how hard it is to be an out and proud educator. Unlike the colour of your skin or even religious symbols — sexuality is something that can’t be seen or guessed. So when some of us educators go out of our way to ā€œoutā€ ourselves in the classroom or online 1/

Miigwetch @BearheadWally for this thread #215children Settler allies, please read whole thread. #Indigenous folks who work in #IndigenousEd are being crushed now for all the reasons listed here
THREAD - It's time to talk again, because even after #215children, there's a problem, and it seems to be building.

My heart hurts. I can't stop thinking about the 9 year old Muslim boy, whose family was killed in an Islamophobic attack yesterday in London, ON. He will grow up without the warmth of his parents. He will grow up without his sister or grandmother. That could have been me.

Horrific incident of #Islamophobia šŸ’”. Conversations on hate-based systems of oppression must be seen as linked. Silos and pitting of one form of racism against another only feeds the larger narrative of Supremacy. We must fight for emancipation collectively.
London, Ont. police say they believe 4 people struck and killed Sunday were 'targeted because of their Islamic faith.' 20-year-old white man charged with 4 counts 1st-degree murder, 1 count attempted murder. Victims members of same family. Previous story: cbc.ca/1.6056238

@castleoaksps Are you wondering how you can take action to support Truth & Reconciliation in our local community? One way is to show your support for this call to action by @PDSBIndigenous
Today, we call upon the Peel District School Board to begin Reconciliation and Reparation to First Nations, MƩtis and Inuit by renaming Sir John A Macdonald SPS. This architect of Residential Schools and proponent of genocide does not foster the spirit of inclusion the Board

37 years ago today, when Sikhs were commemorating the sacrifice of our 5th Guru, the Indian government launched a military invasion into the Harmandir Sahib Complex and 40 gurdwaras across Punjab. We remember the 1984 #SikhGenocide & the countless lives lost. #NeverForget1984

Happy #PrideMonth! I know it won’t be happy for everyone. Perhaps you are struggling with your mental health. Perhaps you are not free to be who you are and love who you love. I need you to know: You are not alone. You are welcome here. You are seen. You are loved. 🌈
