I'm old and washed, but it's wild to see the drop off in Evo numbers this year (-25%!)

Biggest outstanding question is what viewership is going to be like this year. There's still top-level talent in the world going to the event, but I do wonder if the continued corporatization of this event, plus the factors I mentioned, will be enough to drive folks away entirely

There are positives, though! Rivals of Aether and 2XKO doing very well for themselves. Happy for that community.

I have never been more impressed with a game that I will not finish than I am with Blue Prince. I am 45 hours in and am legitimately about 25% of the way done. I have seen what I have left to do and the iceberg continues to get deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper and deeper

I think I've gotten to the point where I need to retire from taking fighting games seriously. I'm getting more frustrated at losses than I ever have before for a few different reasons, and I'm just not sure it's worth it to spend the time in training to reach where I want to be.

Fun nugget from the Evo 2005 Rulebook: If you did a credit card chargeback, you'll be getting unbanned from SRK in four years and will be able to attend Evo 2025.

considering making a video on fighting game journalism (magazines to SRK to EventHubs Adblock eating SRK's lunch to modern day content), but i'm struggling to think of a throughline that isn't 'yeah dawg media is changing' because that's not really an interesting conclusion. π«

The saddest part about doing research for some of these videos is how a ton of FGC streams before 2014 just don't exist anymore. Twitch purged all that stuff years ago and we lost so much history to the wind.
