Call for submissions! A thread. Being uprooted is never geographic. It’s waking up in a place you never thought you would live in, or even worse, living on a street you no longer recognize. As Iraqis, whether we are in the diaspora or not, we are all in search of roots. 1/4

I am sending out a prayer of protection to our artists, writers and activists who have been working so hard, knowing full well how art, culture and knowledge are viewed as enemies of the state. 🤲🏽

Israeli authorities bombed Gaza’s biggest library and main publishing house today. History has seen this before. In 1258 Mongols destroyed the leading library in Baghdad. The Great Library of Alexandria was burned multiple times. Burning books is the work of Empire.

samir mansour, despite the limitation of its offering due to the siege, was the biggest bookshop in gaza. i would find myself roaming it for hours, aimlessly too, because being surrounded by books was a reminder i’ll perhaps find myself in one of these words. it’s all gone now.

Last night, the government of #Iraq drastically slowed down the Internet across the country so it can violently crack down against peaceful protesters with minimal social media backlash. #KeepitOn

Real time decolonization taking place in Palestine right now and can’t help think of the liberal version of decolonization disseminated in Western universities and academia, reduced to reading lists and stripped of all revolutionary meaning, and how they would probably condemn it

Palestinians & non-Palestinians abroad: it is time to break the silence. Risk your job, have that difficult conversation, it will never be as difficult as living under Israeli occupation. Revaluate your life; center Palestinian voices, support our economy, pressure for sanctions.

Palestinians of ‘48 / citizens of Israel, led by young activists, standing with #SheikhJarrah & Jerusalem in downtown Haifa tonight. Israeli police fired stun grenades, arrested about 18, injured several. Protests in other Palestinian towns too.

Photograph from local journalist in Gaza. Sources there say they’re preparing for a night of attacks and that every corner of Gaza can hear the explosions. At least 20 killed there so far.

Israeli police thugs beating unarmed protestors in #Jerusalem, Zionist settlers celebrating land theft in #SheikJarrah, IDF warplanes slaughtering children in #Gaza. That is what Israeli Apartheid in #Palestine looks like.

See and hear from Palestinians in Jerusalem, Gaza, & across Palestine. Forget mainstream media. It is truly undeniable how much injustice and crime we are witnessing Israelis do, boldly and with impunity, on all levels. Which side of history will you be on? #SaveSheikhJarrah
