**The Rick Chow Verdict: A Reminder About the Difference Between Analysis and Judgment** After nearly three years of waiting for trial, the jury in South Carolina v. Rick Chow returned a verdict of **Not Guilty** in the shooting death of 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton. On May 28, 2026, I joined Court TV's Julia Jenae to discuss the case as the prosecution continued presenting evidence and witness testimony. At that point in the trial, based on the evidence I had seen and the testimony presented, I must admit I was caught off guard by the ultimate outcome. As someone who frequently works with defense teams and serves as a consulting and expert witness, I understand the importance of viewing cases through multiple lenses. Yet, based on the evidence available to me at the time, I did not expect a not-guilty verdict. That is precisely why trials matter.
