Survey methodologist, statistician, data all-rounder. (Social) researcher by heart (at @IssrUq). Enjoys sports, traveling, good food, entertaining his daughter.
Our study investigating the feasibility of using a look-up approach to collect occupation data is now available on the @SurveyFutures website: surveyfutures.net/wp-content…
In my latest paper published in Quality & Quantity, I examine recruitment to a university-managed volunteer online panel and the impact of post-survey weighting (particularly the choice and combination of raking covariates) on sample representativeness. doi.org/10.1007/s11135-025-0…
Our paper with PJ Lavrakas is now out in the International Journal of Market Research. We examine motivations & barriers to questionnaire completion in a nonprobability online panel, and identify five distinct psychographic profiles of panellists. More at doi.org/10.1177/147078532513…
📣SAVE THE DATE
Our friends at @CityStGeorges will be hosting our Survey Futures international conference, taking place on 17-18 June 2026. We will explore the Future of Survey Data Collection, presenting findings from our nine research strands, plus panel discussions and more.
New article from @SurveySeb on the investigation between wave communications that could serve as cost-effective panel maintenance activities to increase completion in panel surveys. Read it today. bit.ly/3UfcDs3
🚨Our new paper in PHN @NS_Publications highlights the impact of food insecurity in #Tasmania
🛒 As household food insecurity worsens, diet quality declines across all food groups
🥗Solutions needed to ensure everyone has access to healthy food

Just published my final piece from my PhD thesis - the article on RDD text-to-web is now available in @tweetijmr. It covers (almost) everything you need to know to implement text-to-web (with or without RDD) in practice. Read it here: doi.org/10.1177/147078532312…
Seriousness aside, "Understanding Australia" sounds more like a hybrid between @SRCentreAUS's Life in Australia (we used data from this online panel) and Understanding Society longitudinal survey (@usociety). I do like this blended name for a future study in Australia, though.🙂
Just published in Survey Practice! An experiment in the Understanding Australia survey shows how researchers can maximize the representativeness of panel surveys, without spending a fortune to continually recruit new participants.

Another paper on motivations to participate in online panels with P.J. Lavrakas has just been published in @SurveyPractice.
In this one, we present a method that could help improve representation for a very low cost by utilizing self-reported motivations: surveypractice.org/article/8…
A new day, a different country, a different conference, another presentation of my methods research. This time I have the privilege to talk about my PhD thesis research (Approaches to dealing with survey errors in online panel research) at #GOR23. @dgof_gor
After a stimulating first day at #WAPOR23 conference, I'm excited to present tomorrow on post-survey adjustments aimed at mitigating representation bias in an academic volunteer online panel. @WAPOR
Thrilled to see our meta-analysis (with @lkaczmirek) finally out! A thorough analysis of recruitment rates/practices in 28 probability-based online panels is now published in the International Journal of Social Research Methodology at doi.org/10.1080/13645579.202…#Stats#survey
Our paper with Bernie Baffour on improving accuracy of Australian nonprobability online panel samples has been published in @gesis_ord's mda: doi.org/10.12758/mda.2023.04. While challenging, we showed how carefully designed post-survey adjustment can be successful in reducing bias.
Very happy to see our paper with P. J. Lavrakas on Social-psychological Aspects of Probability-based Online Panel Participation published in @IJPOR_Journal, especially since we demonstrated how qualitative data can be used to study non-response phenomena: doi.org/10.1093/ijpor/edad01…
