I'm coming into land on my final week at Action Tutoring... Attempting to sum up over 12 years of this extraordinary journey is near impossible. However, I've had a stab at synthesising it all down to 12 reflections on 12 years, here: actiontutoring.org.uk/my-fin…
Raising ££ for “Mummy’s charity” and it’s a win win as he can now apply for his silver Blue Peter badge for doing something kind for other people! Proud of my little chap 😄
If we are serious about early intervention in schools to stop criminality later on, we really need to focus on literacy and numeracy!
- 71% of prisoners have lower literacy skills than the average 11 year old.
- About 1 in 5 prisoners are at or below the level of a 5-7 year old.
1/2 I have repeatedly flagged concerns about the lack of regulation in the tutoring industry to @educationgovuk, MPs and Ministers over the last few years. Saddened to read those concerns have come to fruition. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp95…
2/2 Tutoring can be one of the most powerful ways to support pupils, but it must be safe and regulated properly. I hope that action will be taken in light of this and in the meantime I'm proud of the safeguarding and quality standards that we hold ourselves to at @ActionTutoring
Thank you @RetirementTales for bringing your joy, astute insights, nostalgic reflections and gentle humour to education, I've loved following your posts the last few years and you'll be missed - but enjoy a very well deserved retirement!
An Announcement:
"All Good Things..." 🧵
Margaret and I came out of retirement back at the very start of 2022.
At that time, schools were struggling with staff shortages and the then Education Secretary launched a campaign to encourage retired teachers back into classrooms.

Thank you to the wonderful work of @ActionTutoring tutors, who support and encourage our pupils in both English and Maths twice a week. Tutoring takes place during the school day to eliminate any barriers to attending and also ensures tutees are fresh and ready to learn.
#LPC24 today saw more sunshine which meant for inspiring conversations outside! Exploring health and education inequalities links with the brilliant @BecksFisher, catching up with soon to be colleagues @brgadsby & @SteveHaines101 and time with the wonderful Hannah O.
I’ve listened to some fantastic panels today but a highlight of #LPC24 so far has also been some brilliant chats putting education to rights just sat on the floor with these inspiring women!@sarahjwaite @annatreth@juliecmcculloch
#LibDemConf was a huge success this year. Really enjoyed chairing panels with @magic_breakfast@get_further @ActionTutoring @ImpetusUK and @LocalTrust, discussing poverty, education recovery, tackling geographical inequalities, improving the SEND system & partnership working.
