Even with a doctoral degree in nursing, Anna did not realize she was having a stroke. She felt tired and did not feel pain. Her care team later determined that atrial fibrillation caused the clot that led to her stroke. ā€œI got the best care — the team was not only competent but caring. And I have to say, that makes such a huge difference. When I realized I had a stroke, with my nursing background, well, that was scary. But they explained everything to me and told me what they were going to do care-wise. I could tell they cared in the way they spoke to me. They held my hand. They told me that I’d been through a lot, but that I was doing well, and they were going to work with me to get back to where I was. And that brought not only comfort, but confidence.ā€ Now back home at 80, Anna is focused on small goals and staying as active and involved as she can be. Know the signs. Stroke can happen to anyone. Read Anna’s story here: bit.ly/4uNuRSz.

Too many strokes remain preventable, and too many patients aren’t getting care fast enough. That is the gap Sutter Health is working to close by scaling a stroke system built for prevention, speed and impact. More than 150 neurologists and neurointerventional surgeons support care across 17 stroke certified centers, using 24/7 telestroke consults, mobile CT imaging and advanced AI-enabled triage tools. That focus on speed and coordination is translating into results. The American Heart Association @AmericanHeart recognized 16 Sutter hospital campuses with the Get With The GuidelinesĀ® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award and multiple Sutter hospitals were recognized for excellence in stroke care by @Healthgrades in 2026. Pediatric nursing is more than clinical care; it’s supporting children and families through some of their most vulnerable moments. 🩵 To help meet that need, Sutter’s CPMC, part of Sutter Health, is partnering with San Francisco State University to expand pediatric training through a new simulation room on the @SFSU campus. The space offers hands-on, immersive training where students can practice responding to pediatric emergencies, caring for infants and children, and building confidence in communicating with teammates and families — all in a safe, supportive environment. By creating space to learn, practice and grow, the program is helping future nurses step into pediatric care with clinical readiness, compassion and a deeper sense of connection to the patients and families they serve.
