A1: TBH, I have not made time to read the past 18 months; work & life so that sometimes. I have 2 of my faves sitting on desk all the time tho:
1) The Five Languages of Appreciation @ Work: that’s right, Acts, Words, Touch, Time, & Gifts & how to use
2) New Testament #LeadLAP
Good morning friend a ☺️ #LeadLAP. I’m Shelly a district leader from very rural SE CO. Joy came from everywhere this week, but specifically from a HS S I’ve been working hard with & he asked for a hug 🥰
A4: Bourbon 🥃😬. Oh wait, that’s probably the wrong answer….
I set aside 20 minutes twice a day for devotional focus. Usually before work & after work, but sometimes I have to shut my door in the middle 🙏😳 #LeadLAP
A3: The 2 email rule. If the details aren’t clear in 2 emails, I go talk to the person.
2) 4 email rule. I only get to send 4 emails to staff groups/ week. This makes me think about ways to communicate well & effectively.
AND 7pm rule. I don’t check or send after 7. #LeadLAP
A2) We added 3 things to our BOE meeting agendas:
1) Curriculum Corner- T & S share their work to BOE.
2) Data Dive- Schools share the data we have, good or bad.
3) Staff Shout-Outs- recognizing our staff monthly.
Beyond this I do a regular 6 Minutes w/ Swayne video #LeadLAP
A1: This is often difficult because everyone in the culture has to buy in. We do our best to simply advocate for & celebrate RISK TAKING. I love it when staff step out to risk something & we celebrate no matter outcome #LeadLAP
Hi #LeadLAP friends! I’m Shelly, a district super…. intendent 😬 Although I like Super Hero better, here in SE Colorado I’ll just have to stick with day to day 👍
Quote of the week that if value some reflections on:
T: “What about the kids who are here to learn & want to?”
Me: “You presume that the kiddo w/ bad behavior doesn’t. They want to learn too, they don’t know how”
#LeadUp
This Supt is in the hallways this morning showing support for staff. I did some pullout 3rd grade math, managed to head off 2 angry Ss, & Ss who were up to no good turned around when they saw me! If you’re a school admin you should do this, it makes a difference!
A3, b: I also have a”Follow Up/ Through” section on my staff Monday Update. This helps staff know that I'm doing something instead of nothing. #LeadLAP
A3: I post the list of follow thru on the workroom chalkboard. It stays out until we can mark things off. I usually have staff mark it off or sometimes we decide it wasn't worth doing (that my favorite thing) It's best that it's a public scoreboard for all Ts #LeadLAP
A2: I have our staff set up in @KaganOnline leaning teams. We start the year with that & I incorporate teams & structures for every detail. Jot thoughts, all write round table, round robins are my faves #LeadLAP
A1: I always have an agenda & it it divided into sections for our BOE/ Building goals. There is a start & END time that I am 100% dedicated to. I added written objectives lasts semester- it was great! Now, I'm adding to the board meetings too- first one was awesome! #LeadLAP
