We know that some people already avoid contact with palliative care because they suspect it's what will happen, even though it doesn't. That is unequally distributed. People in some marginalised groups are far more likely to suspect health teams, like any form of authority.
THIS IS CHILLING: Lord @Mark_J_Harper is rightly anxious that vulnerable people may stop seeking medical help if they think doctors could raise assisted suicide instead of focusing on healthcare. This risk must not be ignored.

Filibustering tends to be one individual speaking for hours on end. Does not look like that. Useful corrective on the '6 Peers are blocking it' narrative. I think many people opposing this Bill would accept a different version of Assisted Dying to the one put forward in this PMB
I love data. I hate spin. Here's the truth about the Lords' serious scrutiny of the Assisted Dying Bill: ❤️‍🔥 Over 60 peers have tabled amendments^ ❤️‍🔥 160 speakers at Second Reading, 132 in Committee ❤️‍🔥 71% of peers attending the debates ❤️‍🔥 Over 40 peers speaking every week ❤️‍🔥 Average speech length: 4:59 ❤️‍🔥 Just 2* speeches a week exceeding 10 minutes * average, excluding Lord Falconer and the Minister. Most of these were from those opening the debate on large groups of amendments where the speaking time is longer. ^First Marshalled List. Sponsor Lord Falconer has tabled 69. As @ddhitchens points out if every sitting peer did as he did the amendment total would be 58,443

💡Learn more about the NIHR JLA Rolling Funding Calls with a focus on Palliative and End of Life Care research in our upcoming webinar, 10 February 12-1pm. Register Here - events.teams.microsoft.com/e… In February 2025, a refresh of the palliative and end of life care research priorities, guided by people with lived and professional experience, was launched. Recognising the importance of these priorities, the NIHR have a rolling call of funding which they invite research proposals related to selected priorities. Join speakers from the NIHR and Marie Curie who will outline the process behind the top 24 research priorities, discuss why each priority was selected by the NIHR and provide an overview of the NIHR programmes participating in the rolling call. There will be plenty of time for discussion about the priorities and the research funding process.
