@ProfessorJVH relying on labor-hostile lawyers despite the ongoing pleas from all our academic labor unions-@TAUAFT, @PIOatWMU, & @WMUAAUP-about the abuse being directed at employees. Could someone please explain to him that actions speak louder than words? @AAUP@AFT@chronicle
BREAKING: Grad Workers Vote for Tentative Agreement (TA) with U-M
Winning a living wage for most PhD students and major gains in harassment protections, police abolition, and parent & transgender grad care, the TA is a testament to the power of our strike.
well. @UMich has officially docked all pay but $100 for april from its grad workers, putting many of us in a position of dangerous financial precarity. friends/allies, please consider donating to @geo3550 strike fund at givebutter.com/GEOStrikeFund. we need all the help we can get ✊
Just woke up and thought we would check the to do list. 🗒️
Looks like we’re spending the afternoon with @WMUAAUP to discuss shared concerns and strengthen our alliance.
Then we need to send @geo3550 some good strike vibes as they continue to fight for what they deserve. ✊🏿✊🏻✊🏾
Good morning to everyone at @UMich EXCEPT those that are working to further promote systemic inequities and trying to break the strike.
Enjoy the sun on the line today friends 🌞😎
We will win a living wage and a fair contract.
@UMich can do the right thing now, save the costs of its failed strikebreaking attempts, and stop the ongoing disruption to the education of almost 50,000 students.
It is **illegal** for public employees in Michigan to strike, yet a judge has just refused to issue an injunction against @geo3550's strike .
What's going on?
One of my biggest hobbyhorses is that labor folks should get the words "can" and "can't" out of their vocabulary.

A judge has now ruled twice against the University of Michigan’s efforts to force striking graduate students back to work.
Judge Carol Kuhnke declined to issue a restraining order or grant a preliminary injunction against the 2,000 grad students of @geo3550 who are on strike.
Today in court after admitting they were only able to find a single undergrad to testify in their favor, @UMich’s lawyers compared GEO’s strike to domestic violence. Comparing striking grad workers to domestic abusers is completely reprehensible. 🧵1/4
Got a few minutes to spare today? Make a quick call to support our friends in @geo3550!
It’s more important now than ever that universities in Michigan, like @UMich and @WesternMichU listen to the reasonable demands of graduate workers to be treated with dignity and respect.

Tonight our members moved to STRIKE! Join us on the Diag this WEDNESDAY at 10:24 AM as we WALK OUT and walk away from $24K—we’re striking for a living wage! When we stand together, we stand strong!
With all the talk of layoffs and changes at Twitter it seems like as good a time as any to bring up that the tech industry needs more unions. They’d have a fight on their hands with their new union buster boss but we wish twitter’s workers well ✊
