Intensive week in Istanbul with our Humanitarian Coordinators - the courageous frontline leaders of the humanitarian community’s lifesaving work.
Listening, learning (including about impact of AI and climate on our work), problem solving, strategizing. #87MillionLives
Today I laid a wreath to commemorate the nearly 4,500 people who have lost their lives since @UNPeacekeeping began almost 80 years ago.
And I was humbled to posthumously bestow the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal to 68 peacekeepers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
They represent the best of humanity – people prepared to risk everything to keep others safe.

What does the vandalism of international solidarity mean for those in greatest need?
And how do we fight back?

In time of huge humanitarian crises and attacks against humanitarian community, this discussion with 50 Spanish NGOs, civil society and autonomous communities energised me on how we fight back.
Thanks @AECID_es@anton_leis for hosting.
Latest figures: in face of huge challenges, our tireless humanitarian community reached 16.4m people facing most severe needs with life-saving help in Q1. Results.
So much more to do. Let’s keep delivering.

Quietly marking 10th birthday of The Naked Diplomat. What a ride. Thank you to everyone who read, nurtured, translated (30 languages), challenged, used, improved it.
I’m happy it is out there.
I’ll scribble in next Humanifesto on where the last decade proved me right/wrong.
We need to get ahead of this Ebola outbreak.
I am allocating up to $60 million from the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund to accelerate the response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the wider region.

A week in Somalia, why we don’t name our attackers, natural disasters, a funding breakthrough, UN gossip in Tokyo, #diplovision, Charlie Chaplin, and radical transparency.

The best test for humanitarian action is that we create conditions for us to leave.
The work ahead in Syria remains significant, but the immense progress made alongside the Syrian government in 18 months is cause for optimism. We need to stay the course.
1.8bn USD of new humanitarian funding announced by @StateDept will save millions of lives.
The humanitarian community has a plan to reach 87m people with lifesaving aid and we’re determined to deliver.
I’ve been in close contact with our courageous Ukraine team after we were hit twice this morning while delivering food in Kherson. We demand answers and accountability.
Today, delivering aid to people in severe need of assistance and under constant attack in #Kherson, a clearly marked @UN vehicle was struck by a drone.
Over 200 civilians, mostly older people, remain there.
More from the Head of @UNOCHA in Ukraine, who accompanied the convoy⬇️

Community note
Russia has been constantly attacking civilians and UN workers with drones in Kherson for years.
