Great teams don’t make excuses. They make adjustments.
No…
“Yeah, but the refs…” “Yeah, but they’re more talented…” “Yeah, but we were tired…”
Accountability starts when the excuses stop.
Fundamentals Before Scheme – Crossover Run
Once the WR breaks our cushion (steps on our toes), we transition into a crossover run. This is where technique and discipline take over.
Primary area of focus is the WR waist on down. The hips don’t lie—key the lower body to stay grounded and avoid getting lost in upper-body movement.
Maintain your distance. In the WR’s mind, if they’re even, they’re leaving—so we cannot afford to be flat-footed or out of phase. Stay in control of the leverage and match their speed with urgency.
You’ll see some DBs shoot that off hand to the WR’s shoulder. When they’re in trouble or dealing with a speed guy, they’re taught to shoot that hand to the near shoulder. This helps them stay on top of the route and remain in phase without panicking or overextending.
Everything ties back to fundamentals—eyes disciplined, feet efficient, and hands intentional.
