ALT Evening Standard - 8 November 2013: Boris must tackle cycle safety now THREE days ago, Brian Holt, a much-loved hospital porter who worked at Mile End Hospital for more than 40 years, was run down and killed while cycling on the cycle superhighway that runs through Tower Hamlets. In the same week, two other cyclists have suffered serious injuries at Holborn and Oxford Circus. The total number of cyclists killed on London's roads this year is now nine. This carnage has got to stop. In Tower Hamlets we've invested £100,000 to improve cycle lanes and junctions but only so much can be done at a local level.
