Academic conferences aren't all fun and games... but they could be! Make the most of them by playing academic conference BINGO. Listen for key phrases and keep your eyes peeled for specific observations. Challenge yourself with different bingo patterns. @AcademicChatter

We're halfway through the year and it's been a busy one! I work with some incredible teams @IQuEStHouston and its affiliate institutions, and really enjoy the variety of scholarship we produce as a result. Cheers to the second half of 2026!

Help! I can't f find a good source that details why we went from GLBT to LGBT. It's common knowledge and social lore that the L was moved to the front of the acronym to honor lesbians' service during the HIV/AIDS epidemic, I'm not finding a good, academic source.

Universities don't need to "teach students to use AI well." The whole point of AI is that it doesn't require any skill. Universities *should* teach students how to write and research on their own, and foster an ethic of shaming people who outsource their basic ability to think.

It’s brutal in academia right now. A lot is out of our control, but it doesn’t cost anything to remember that there are humans behind papers and grants. Reviewers, program officials and funders can be more empathetic in the face of all the chaos in the US scientific enterprise.

Students who took notes by hand scored ~28% higher on conceptual questions than laptop note-takers. Writing forces your brain to process and compress ideas instead of copying them.
