Usually I will disagree with a lot of what brokers say about carriers, but I tend to agree with this one. I get it, many carriers feel like it's "revenge time" right now. From 2022-2025 I have been hung up on, and in one case, called a "stupid bitch" for asking for a higher rate (ah, good memories). And yeah, the itch for giving some of them a taste of their own medicine is strong right now. But I would urge truckers not to hang up the phone. This guy makes a very good point- if no one takes a second to tell him what the rate should be, how will he tell his customers? I might be naive, but I still believe in staying professional—even with people who weren’t professional with you.

I noticed something strange a few weeks back: I started getting emails from brokers/brokerages I have never worked or heard of before saying how they are updating their system and wanted to make sure they have the right info on our company. I wonder if its some type of fraud or just new brokers trying to get carriers?

Apparently Kansas did not get a memo that when a driver fails an English language proficiency interview, it ought to be an OOS order, not just a violation.

I have questions. When one comes to a military base to pick up a load, they do a VERY thorough background check, or so it seems. Two possibilities that I can think of: 1. The background check was not thorough 2. The person who is operating the truck with the military load is not the same person that checked in.

In regards to the Virginia crash that happened on May 29th which caused the FMCSA to sue the state of New York for allowing a driver who does not speak english to hold a CDL...this goes much deeper than that. The driver, 48 year old Jing Sheng Dong is a naturalized US citizen. I am a naturalized US citizen, and I know that when you have your interview, not only do you need to have all documents in order, there are also tests you have to pass. One of them is a test on English Language Proficiency...which is an absolute joke. For the reading test, you must read aloud ONE out of 3 sentences correctly from a tablet. Same for the writing test, only one of the 3 sentences must be written correctly. There is a waiver- if you are 50 years old or older during the interview and have been a permanent resident for 20 years, you don't have to take the English language test, OR if you are 55 years or older and have been a permanent resident for 15 years. The civics test, in this case, would be performed in the applicant's native language. But this doesn't apply to Mr. Dong who is currently 48 years old.

I find it very curious how IDs are not required when voting. Today is the last day to vote in the CA governor primary election. I have always received my ballot by mail and dropped it off in person on the last day of voting. No, they have never asked me for my ID but today was a particularly interesting experience. I come up to a very nice elderly gentleman who is in charge of accepting the sealed ballots. He looks at the envelope, points at my signature and asks, “is this you?” I say yes. He then proceeds to put the envelope to his ear and pauses to “listen”, followed by, “YEP! That’s you, the ballot just told me. Do you want a sticker?” What?

I think my little one did a fantastic job capturing the essence of Sneaky Snicks. 😂
