Just like itβs bad form for a DM to turn the players into dialog-generating plot pawns in their scripted epic fantasy yarn, itβs also bad form for the players to turn the DM into a dispenser for personal cool and heroic moments and story and plot cues. It goes both ways.

As evidence, look at other game genres that don't have publisher gatekeepers. In my early surveys on Escape Rooms, almost half of escape room designers were women. In the Indie RPG industry, there's an incredible spread of ideas and diverse viewpoints.

Part of broadening the industry has to mean broadening the sort of games we print. That seems obvious: why else would we broaden the industry? Why would we expect Jane Doe's game to look like a Reiner Knizia game? We already have Knizia games.

And yes, I like seeing the results of my hard work in the mirror. I think my muscles are super hot. Itβs weird how we encourage people to be confident in their bodies up until the moment they *are*β¦then we tell them theyβre being vain. Fuck that.
