"Queens Borough President, Donovan Richards, tried to get the two groups to work together on the project—but the QueensWay supporters refused to even consider incorporating rail into their vision." Understand why we are fighting for all of Queens. thequeenslink.org/get-involv…

NEW: As the QueensWay gets federal funding, rail advocates are fuming that New York's leaders are passing on a rare, once-in-a-generation opportunity to add desperately needed transit in Queens—all so a park can have another park in it. hellgatenyc.com/rockaways-to…

Also, a common misconception is that the NYC Subway was built/funded by private funds. That is not true, as in Dual Contracts No. 1-4, the subways were built by the city and leased out to the IRT and BMT. This includes the original "Z" system, and all of the various branches.

So to sum up, the five cent fare mandate wasn't the only factor in the IRT and BMT's demise. Car are another huge factor. This was why in other cities, public transit was under municipal control by the 1950s. There wasn't money to be made operating passenger trains anymore.

All of this shows that @QueensWayNYC is an astroturfed plan aimed to obstruct real transit progress in Queens. If you told any NY commuter that there is a train line coming, of course they will support it because better transit is the one thing that most NYers support.

We do the Lines That Never Were series to emphasize one point: NYC used to be able to build new train lines. Now, in a time when Queens desperately needs a transit revolution (like the 7 Train Project and @thequeenslink, we get this response, showing how backwards we came from.

Also, this is not an open invitation to start throwing money at subway projects. Instead, we need to lower our subway costs in line with the rest of the world so that we have more of an impact with our money.
