These statistics aren’t changing. Louise K rightly states from our forum.. ‘1 in 4-5 experience mental illness in pregnancy and yet 1 specialist midwife. In our trust we have 4 diabetes midwives and that is a condition that effects 1 in 23 pregnancies.’ We need change NOW 4/4

Domestic abuse affects an estimated 1.3 million women each year, with around 30% of domestic abuse beginning during pregnancy. It's important that we understand how this impacts women's maternal mental health and the ability to access support.

Services need to be culturally sensitive. Brilliant points made by @BenashNaz about working with communities that Trusts serve to ensure they fit the need. ‘Listen to hear, not to respond’ @fivexmore equally point out importance of listening to women and birthing people.
bit.ly/BirthrightsRaceInquir… If you commission, manage or work in Perinatal mental health services or maternal mental health clinics this is an important read. Vital that all black and brown women and their families can access specialist assessments and the right interventions.
