There are thousands of cryptocurrencies. But they don't all live in the same place.
Each blockchain is its own network — Ethereum, Solana, TRON, Bitcoin, and others. A coin on Ethereum can't just move to Solana the way you'd move money between bank accounts. They're separate infrastructure.
This is why "we accept crypto" doesn't actually mean much without the details.

When a payment gateway only supports one or two blockchains, your customer has a problem.
They might hold USDT on TRON. You only accept USDT on Ethereum. Same coin, different network, and it doesn't go through.
So they either pay a fee to convert and wait for it to clear, or they abandon the payment entirely.
The wider your gateway's network support, the fewer of those moments exist.
