“It’s basically like sending a fleet of people out there without sending anyone.” Tournament prep moves fast. During the @MyrtleBeachCl ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic at @thedunesclub_MB, continuous moisture mapping helped provide visibility into where stress was developing and where attention was needed most. By collecting moisture data during normal mowing operations, teams gain course-wide insight without adding extra staff, vehicles, or additional passes. #turfRad #GolfCourseManagement #Agronomy #Irrigation

Most water reports are full of numbers, but four of them explain almost everything. EC tells you how much is dissolved in the water. Salinity shows how hard it is for turf to take up moisture. SAR and sodicity point to potential soil structure issues. Together, they explain why water moves differently… and why turf responds differently. But here’s what often gets overlooked: water chemistry can also influence how moisture is measured. That’s where turfRad sees things differently: hubs.li/Q04c5qBP0 #turfmanagement #precisionag #agronomy #irrigation #turfRad

Reminder: Join us this Wednesday for the second session in our turfRad webinar series. Register here: hubs.li/Q04hjjB00 We'll cover how L-band sensing measures root-zone moisture, how it differs from NDVI and other sensing technologies, and how the data is validated and used in the field. 📅 June 10 | 11:00 AM ET
The second session in our turfRad webinar series is taking place on June 10: "Measuring Moisture, Not Appearance: The Technology Behind turfRad" How L-band sensing works. How it compares to other approaches. How it performs in real-world conditions. Plus perspectives from superintendents in the field. 📅 June 10 | 11:00 AM ET 👉 Register: hubs.li/Q04hjjB00 #turfRad #RemoteSensing #SoilMoisture #turfRad #RemoteSensing #SoilMoisture

Meet Lars Horvath - Co-Founder and CTO of TerraRad. ETH Zürich-trained RF engineer. Builder of the hardware, firmware, cloud pipeline, and portal behind turfRad. The person who turned a research instrument that needed a PhD to operate into a product that works automatically during a normal mowing pass. He'll be presenting the technology at our next webinar on June 10. 📅 June 10 | 11:00 AM ET 👉 Register: hubs.li/Q04j7Pby0 #turfRad #RemoteSensing #SoilMoisture #MeetTheSpeakers

turfRad uses passive L-band microwave sensing at ~1.4 GHz - the same physics as NASA's SMAP and ESA's SMOS satellites - to measure volumetric water content directly in the root zone. The sensor doesn't transmit anything. It listens to the natural microwave energy that soil continuously emits - an emission that changes predictably with water content. The result is a direct moisture measurement at 3–4 inches depth, unaffected by light, weather, or surface conditions. This is a fundamentally different approach to the optical and thermal tools commonly used in turf management today. We'll break it all down at the second session in our turfRad webinar series on June 10. 👉 Register here: hubs.li/Q04gyPVV0 #turfRad #RemoteSensing #SoilMoisture

From 2,200 GPM to 200 GPM - that’s the reality Director of Grounds Lance Lauer and his team are managing at The Country Club at Castle Pines under ongoing drought conditions. A pond renovation reduced available water to a fraction of normal, turning a standard overnight irrigation cycle into a 3-day operation with pumps running 24/7. Using turfRad, the team has saved over 16 million gallons annually while maintaining firm, fast, and consistent conditions. More here: hubs.li/Q04h3VBb0

Next up in our webinar series: “Measuring Moisture, Not Appearance: The Technology Behind turfRad” Register here: hubs.li/Q04hsf8f0 📅 June 10 | 11:00 AM ET Many sensing tools measure appearance, but irrigation decisions happen in the root zone. In this session, we’ll break down how turfRad works, how it differs from other sensing approaches, and hear perspectives from superintendents using the technology in practice. Speakers: Derek Houtz - CEO, TerraRad Lars Horvath - CTO, TerraRad @mattgourlaycgcs - Superintendent, Hillcrest Country Club (ID) Tyler Truman - Superintendent, Sun City Palm Desert (CA) @TurfgrassZealot (Moderator) - Director of Agronomy & Customer Success, TerraRad #turfRad #RemoteSensing

In Southern Europe, irrigation runs for 6–7 months a year. Reclaimed water, high evapotranspiration, rising costs - the margin for error is narrow. Agronomist Javier Gutiérrez García on why continuous moisture data is changing how decisions get made on course: hubs.li/Q04ffm4_0 #turfRad

Two scan dates. One map. See exactly what changed between them. Select any two dates in the turfRad Portal, drag the divider, and compare soil moisture conditions side by side. Switch to Sprinkler View to see moisture levels per sprinkler head - and how many fall into each category for each date. Select any category to see exactly which heads shifted and where. #turfRadFeatures

A great visit to @lahacienda_golf in Alcaidesa, Costa del Sol 🇪🇸 Superintendent Ricardo Barón Burguete and his team are currently running a turfRad demo on the course. In regions like Southern Spain, where irrigation and water management are critical, understanding moisture distribution plays a key role in day-to-day decisions. #turfRad

The bottom right fairway looked healthy. No signs of stress. But the turfRad moisture map showed it hadn't received any irrigation overnight - something a visual check would have missed. Catch distribution gaps before they show up on the surface. #turfRad
