Strong communities are built on trust, connection and shared responsibility. When people feel supported, informed and included, they are less vulnerable to manipulation and harmful influences. Community resilience is one of the strongest forms of prevention. #CommunitySafety #SeeSomethingSaySomething #TRCKE #PCVE @NCTC_Kenya

BUILDING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE AGAINST VIOLENT EXTREMISM. NCIC joined @NCTC_Kenya, @EU_Commission, County leaders, and stakeholders in Elgeyo-Marakwet County for a consultative meeting on the establishment of a Security and Community Policing Working Group to strengthen efforts in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE). The engagement, aligned with Kenyaโ€™s National Strategy to Counter Violent Extremism, brought together key actors to support the development of county-level mechanisms for addressing emerging security threats through a multi-stakeholder approach. A key outcome was the nomination of NCIC, Deputy County Commissioner, and County Peace Officer to support the development of the Elgeyo-Marakwet County Action Plan on PCVE. This provides a framework for coordinated interventions, community resilience building, and enhanced stakeholder collaboration. Together, we continue to champion peace, social cohesion, and sustainable security through inclusive, community-led solutions. #AmaniKwaGround #PCVE #NationalCohesion #PreventingViolentExtremism #OnePeopleOneNationOnedestiny

Faith has long been a source of hope, guidance and unity. Unfortunately, extremist groups often distort religious teachings to manipulate, divide and recruit vulnerable individuals. Question messages that promote hatred, violence, isolation or blind obedience in the name of faith. True faith builds communities. Extremism destroys them. Faith unites. Extremism divides. #CommunitySafety #CounterExtremism #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya

Trust is an important part of every healthy relationship. Unfortunately, it can also be exploited. Recruiters often build trust first before attempting to influence beliefs, behaviours or decisions. Recognising the signs of manipulation is an important step in prevention. #CommunitySafety #CounterExtremism #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya

HOW RECRUITMENT REALLY HAPPENS Recruitment often begins long before harmful intentions become visible. Sometimes it arrives as a friendship. A conversation. An invitation. A promise. Not every threat arrives with a warning and understanding the signs can help protect individuals, families and communities. #CommunitySafety #TRCKE #CounterExtremism @NCTC_Kenya

AWARENESS TODAY PROTECTS TOMORROW Over the past week, weโ€™ve explored how Kenyaโ€™s Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) addresses terrorism-related offences before violence occurs. From online activity and extremist materials to terror financing and travel for terrorist purposes, one message remains clear: Understanding the law helps protect individuals, families and communities. Awareness is prevention. Informed choices matter. #POTA #CommunitySafety #TRCKE #Ebola #JKLive @NCTC_Kenya @ODPP_KE

REAL DECISIONS, REAL CONSEQUENCES Behind every terrorism-related arrest, prosecution or death is a story of choices and consequences. Many young people who became involved in extremist networks were promised purpose, belonging, money or a better future. Instead, some ended up in prison. Others lost their freedom. Some never made it home. The consequences extend far beyond the individual, affecting families, friends and entire communities. Understanding the risks and making informed decisions can help prevent these outcomes. Awareness today can protect tomorrow. #CommunitySafety #CounterExtremism #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya @ODPP_KE

WHAT'S ON YOUR DEVICE MATTERS Many people assume terrorism-related offences only involve violence. However, certain materials linked to terrorist activities can also attract serious legal consequences. Books, Videos, Digital files, Propaganda materials. What you choose to download, store or share matters. Staying informed about the law helps protect you, your family and your community. Awareness is prevention. #POTA #CommunitySafety #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya @ODPP_KE

WHAT COUNTS AS TERROR FINANCING? When people hear the term โ€œterror financing,โ€ they often think of large sums of money. In reality, providing funds, resources, transport, accommodation or other forms of support to terrorist groups can also be a criminal offence. Not every contribution is measured by its size. Sometimes even small acts of support can have serious legal consequences. Understanding the law is part of protecting yourself and your community. #POTA #CommunitySafety #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya @ODPP_KE

THE JOURNEY CAN COST YOU EVERYTHING Not every terrorism-related offence involves carrying a weapon or participating in an attack. Under Kenya's Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), travelling or attempting to travel to join terrorist groups or conflict zones can itself be a criminal offence. Many young people have been lured by false promises of purpose, belonging, money or adventure, only to find themselves facing prison, injury or death. One decision can change the course of a life forever. Understanding the risks and the law is part of prevention. #POTA #CommunitySafety #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya @ODPP_KE

THINK BEFORE YOU SHARE Many people assume terrorism-related offences only happen offline. In reality, online activity can also have serious legal consequences. Sharing extremist propaganda. Distributing recruitment materials. Promoting terrorist groups. Facilitating communication between recruiters and potential recruits. What may seem like "just forwarding a message" can sometimes become evidence of a criminal offence. Before you share, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it lawful? Could it cause harm? Think before you share. #POTA #DigitalSafety #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya @ODPP_KE

UNDERSTANDING POTA(Prevention of Terrorism Act) You Can Be Arrested Before An Attack Happens Many people believe terrorism-related arrests only happen after an attack takes place. Under Kenyaโ€™s Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA), individuals can also face arrest and prosecution for: โ€ข possession of extremist materials โ€ข facilitating recruitment โ€ข planning attacks โ€ข supporting terror networks โ€ข travelling to jihad conflict zones โ€ข financing or assisting extremist activities Prevention laws exist to stop threats before violence occurs. SEE SOMETHING. SAY SOMETHING. Safe communities are built when people stay aware, look out for one another and speak up when something feels wrong. Many threats are prevented because someone noticed unusual behaviour or suspicious activity and chose to report it early. See something.Say something. Community vigilance and cooperation continue to play an important role in keeping people safe. #CommunitySafety #TRCKE @NCTC_Kenya @DCI_Kenya
