It's kind of comical how much cheaper Finals tickets are in San Antonio than NYC. Says a lot about the relative wealth of the two cities and fanbases. No wonder San Antonio has to pay the @spurs $800M of tax dollars to stop them from playing more games in Austin. Dubious how long that can last.

As a Houstonian I'm thrilled that I found this ode to my city, but also annoyed I never knew it existed.

I keep trying to explain to folks that the @FIFAWorldCup tickets aren't going to mirror the Olympics, but a mid-tier College Bowl game. Just show up to the stadium the day of the game and you're likely to get tickets for $40. If @TexasBowl can't sell out UH vs LSU (63K tickets/72K capacity), you think Saudi vs Cape Verde will sell out in Houston?!?
FIFA has controlled ticket inventory leading up to the World Cup, releasing new batches at certain points and then (as it looks from the chart) pulling back tickets at other times FIFA still has ~25K unsold tickets. It's now giving thousands of them out for free. Story below ⬇️

Fwiw hotel rooms at Hilton Americas are *wide* open and discounted during the World Cup. The next sellout is July 11 for @dreamconvention

How do we start this political party?
I basically think the average voter is pretty wrong on: 1) Nuclear power (it's good) 2) Foreign aid (we spend very little on it and should spend more) 3) Climate change (a majority say they're not willing to have any additional amounts of their tax money spent on climate. The national average willingness to pay for things that help with climate is ~$300 per year) 4) Immigration (I think it's broadly good across the board, and definitely good to get more high skilled immigrants specifically) 5) Price controls in general (bad!) I'd like governments to patiently nod along to voter concerns but quietly approve more nuclear, spend more on foreign aid, pay way more on climate, and allow at least more high skilled immigrants. I just flat out think it's wrong for politicians to have 1-1 similar views to the median voter and sometimes they need to diverge.

The unilateral move by the GOP to abandon mail-in voting is one of the biggest head scratchers of modern politics. Deep Red Shasta County just voted to end mail-in voting, which will only cost the GOP more votes: sfchronicle.com/california/a…
86% of Shasta County voted by mail in the 2024 general election--an election which saw Donald Trump get 67% of the vote and Steve Garvey getting 70%.

I genuinely love riding the bus in Houston, although the current fare system is hopelessly kludgy. More people should try it! Between Waymo and Metro you don't really need a car in the loop.
Opinion | Frequent bus routes are at an all-time high, writes transit advocate Nick Arcos. Houstonians should the bus a try and prove the experiment can work long-term. houstonchronicle.com/opinion…

Houston freeways are so wide they're creating their own microclimates
Anyone ever seen interstate-induced clouds before? Low level CU developed perfectly along major interstates around Houston this morning. Kind of shocking to see such perfectly lined up clouds. #txwx

The data from @mercuryfund's GTM survey is pretty incredible. CAC payback periods have dramatically accelerated in the AI era. 5X increase in payback under 6 months! The rules have changed mercuryfund.com/gtm-report/

Because Airlines make more money from their credit cards than providing travel, they're currently lobbying on behalf of credit cards to keep credit card merchant fees inflated 🤯
Don't let Colorado lawmakers take away your credit card points. Tell Gov. Polis: VETO SB-134!
Community note
SB-134 specifically prevents payment card networks from charging transaction fees on the sales tax portion of the credit sale. While card issuers may choose to recoup those losses by reducing rewards, it is not a part of the bill. leg.colorado.gov/bills/SB26-134

Unclear who is going to win, but this is incredibly classless by @AnniseParker. If she's going to be the nominee, she'll have a lot of work to do to win over people of color. This attitude is exactly why she's in this position tbh.

➡️"While I did not think my opponent could beat me, low turnout absolutely could." During an election night watch party Tuesday evening, former Houston Mayor Annise Parker told media that the runoff for the 18th Congressional District, as well as overall low turnout rate from voter fatigue, could help turn the Harris County judge race in Letitia Plummer’s favor. #harriscounty #houston #houstonpolitics #texaspolitics #electionday #runoffelection #anniseparker #letitiaplummer #harriscountyjudge #chron
