Suggestions to fix Genomic Medicine in Ireland:
1. State funds national genome project.
2. State acquires Genomics Medicine Ireland / Genuity sequencing facility for national genome project.
3. State retrieves genomic data of people whose genomes have already been sequenced.
Lessons learnt from Genomics Medicine Ireland:
1. Don't give your DNA / genome to a company who can sell it on.
2. Don't invest taxpayers' money in a company that is going to up sticks at the first opportunity.
3. Invest in a public national genome project.
But we knew this...
This was always going to happen (again).
What a waste of money and so frustrating!!
Why did State put €66m into a private DNA firm instead of a national genomics initiative?
