Imagine every pixel on your screen, streamed live directly from a model. No HTML, no layout engine, no code. Just exactly what you want to see. @eddiejiao_obj, @drewocarr and I built a prototype to see how this could actually work, and set out to make it real. We're calling it Flipbook. (1/5)

Really great writeup by @Evan_ec on some of our interesting/non-obvious discoveries building with LLMs at Convogo!

I’ve had the chance to demo this at @southpkcommons and it’s incredible – I’ve been wanting a good silent speech to text interface for a long time, and @getmamoapp is shockingly accurate without needing any extra hardware

@getmamoapp lets you use dictation anywhere! You can dictate in public and noisy environments and It will transcribe for you by reading your lips. No vocalization, additional hardware, or wearable mic required! *watch with sound on🔊*

15/🧵 Conclusion: The Viture Pro is the first headset that feels usable for my daily work. It’s not perfect, but it’s a significant step toward my dream AR productivity tool. If you need an extra monitor on the go, I recommend giving them a try!

16/🧵 I do have my fingers crossed that a more premium Viture Pro 2, the upcoming Immersed Visor or the rumored Apple Vision (Air/Lite?) will solve the remaining issues (higher-res display, bigger FOV, better head tracking) and be the holy grail here.

14/🧵 Aesthetics: They look great and are less isolating than full VR headsets. I can work on the couch next to my partner without feeling disconnected. Easier to take off, and from her perspective I look slightly less like a nerdy alien.

12/🧵 Ergonomics: Insanely light and comfortable enough to wear all day. I can wear them for hours in a cafe looking straight ahead instead of down at my laptop. As an ergonomics geek who travels with a split keyboard, this is a big deal for me.

13/🧵 The right stalk gets very hot, which is uncomfortable when handling, but I don’t feel it on my head when wearing them, so not a huge deal.

9/🧵 Lens adjustments: Crucial feature. My vision is nearly 20-20, but without lens adjustment, everything is blurry. Downside: I do have to re-adjust every session because the wheels get knocked in transit. Makes me appreciate how good the AVP’s automatic adjustment feature is.

11/🧵 I find I can see my laptop screen clearly below the frame of the glasses, so in standard mode, I get 2 solid monitors stacked vertically. This is how I've been using them for the most part.

10/🧵 Multi-monitor setup: The glasses have two modes — standard (single screen in full FOV) and SpaceWalker (multiple monitors with head tracking). SpaceWalker’s head tracking is laggy and jittery (nauseating). Small FOV means you can only see one monitor at a time anyways.

7/🧵 Overall rating: 8/10. If they had 4k displays and a larger field of view, they’d be nearly perfect. I’m comparing them to the AVP, which is 7x the price, so take that into account. Since they're for work, I'm looking for the best solution and relatively cost-insensitive.

8/🧵 Display quality: Not as clear as the AVP for text, but surprisingly good. It’s workable for coding over several hours. There’s slight fuzziness, which is why I prefer a physical monitor when possible. The screen is bigger in my field of view than my 16” MacBook screen.

6/🧵 Enter the Viture Pro. I’ve been using it for a week now, and it’s semi-regular in my routine. I still prefer a real monitor when available, but the Viture Pro is great for working at cafes or on the go. They’re light enough to carry in my backpack without a second thought.

5/🧵 The AVP has an amazing display and passthrough quality but lacked critical productivity features for a product of that price (like multiple monitors). I found it too heavy for long sessions and too bulky to travel with. I ended up returning both.

3/🧵 The Viture Pro isn’t perfect, but it’s a significant step forward. Most recently, I’ve tried the Quest 3 and the Apple Vision Pro (AVP). The Quest 3 was too bulky and not high enough quality. The AVP was super impressive but clearly not built for productivity.

4/🧵 The Quest 3’s bulk, poor passthrough, and lower-quality display made it hard for me to use daily, despite @ImmersedVR’s great multi-monitor app.
