Some news to share😀 I will be relocating to The Centre for Microbiome Research (@CMR_QUT and @QUT) in Feb 2024 to launch a @arc_gov_au #FutureFellowship with Gene Tyson and @S_J_Mc that brings omics-guided high throughput cultivation to the rumen microbiome. New bugs = new clues

Thank you, @7NewsBrisbane and @MarlinaWhop, for sharing details of microbiome research from @ThePopeLab at @QUT's @CMR_QUT. They are developing a probiotic for cows to reduce the amount of methane they burp up. bit.ly/4jjTy4k

We're all familiar with probiotics to improve our gut health but a team of Queensland scientists are developing one for cattle. They're aiming to produce more productive animals and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. @MarlinaWhop

Back in 1962 microscopy was used to pen a hypothesis about eukaryote-microbe relationships. ~65 years later we have coupled the latest advancements in long read MetaG, MetaP and EUK SAGs to help explain what this means for wider rumen microbiome function nature.com/articles/s41467-0…

Very much to our surprise, a strain of Limosilactobacillus reuteri drives severe pathology in a mouse model of multiple sclerosis. Pathology was driven by a secondary metabolite that hyperactivates the AhR receptor. See our publication in @CellReports. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Our study on drug-gut microbiome interactions is out! 🦠💊 @NatureMicrobiol We show that the #Parkinson's drug entacapone induces iron deficiency in microbes, leading to selective inhibition of microbial activity. Check the full story here: rdcu.be/d0ZAQ

Congrats to @ThePopeLab on the recent publication in Communications Biology, which demonstrates the need for high-resolution microbiome characteristion to design effective intervention strategies—in this case, to improve the health of Atlantic salmon. shorturl.at/4U2YO

So excited to see this out! Aerated environments can be major sources of methane. This is due to the activities of aerotolerant methanogens. In the process, we show unexpected feedbacks between pollution and climate change. @ning_hall @MBiogeochem biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
