Hugely disappointing to watch
@annamalai_k, days after quitting the BJP to launch a movement he sold as a "new beginning" above divisive politics, reach for the oldest divisive card in the state… North Indian vs Tamil, over the unfortunate rape and killing of a child.
Going ONLY by the framing of his tweet, it is clear that the supposed reformer already sounds like the establishment he promised to replace.
And notice how his tweet abt north Indian thing went out only in Tamil. Anna, an ex IPS officer will know that a real law and order concern travels in every language and in that language rapists are rapists and they can’t be bracketed into regions etc.
Perhaps, he was avoiding showing his this side to his nationalist fans outside TN. By Keeping it in Tamil, perhaps he was trying to leverage the unfortunate case for an emotional appeal to harness support for his newly launched outfit or may be he was trying to avoid harder national questions that this segregation will raise.
If Anna’s concern is genuine, he should repeat Tamil tweet content in English as well and let the whole country weigh it.
Anna, again, you were an IPS officer. So who would know this better than anyone that a rapist is a rapist. He carries no home state, no mother tongue, no region on his crime. Sorting the accused by geography is not law and order, it is politics of worst form and that too on a child's body. You are bettering DMK for sure!
Let me asking Anna, was Gnanasekaran in the Anna University case a North Indian? What was the identity of the PSBB teacher convicted in that case under POCSO ? Which region do the 15 men convicted for assaulting an 11 year old inside a Chennai apartment, belong to ? Was the horror done to those survivors any smaller?
Anna, crime against our women and children needs prevention, policing and fast convictions. It does not need a pin dropped on the map of where the accused was born.
You have started on an extremely wrong note Anna; or may be BJP leadership was right in seeing through you and we were wrong in seeing you as our hope against Dravidian politics.
Perhaps it was BJP that made you maintain that facade of nationalist for so long you were in that party- wrote this tweet with a heavy heart but then this needs to be said as with this stand of yours- our hopes of seeing new politics emerge in TN has suffered a huge jolt- what a fall, Anna!
