Saying coaches are underpaid doesn’t mean they coach for money. It means their time, labor, and impact deserve to be valued better. Two things can be true at once.

The #1 skill missing from today’s athlete is mental toughness. Refusing to hold oneself accountable to individual and team goals. Blaming others for circumstances. Not fighting through adversity. Pouting and poor body language. Physical skill can only take you so far. Get tough! #DoingDirtWork

For high school seniors or their parents who still want to wrestle in college. There are still opportunities out there. You probably won't get much scholarship, it probably won't be your dream school, it probably won't be D1. But there are a lot of schools with roster spots

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: You can’t convince someone who doesn’t want to work hard, to work hard. Also, if someone wants to leave your team or organization, let them go. Never try to convince someone to stay who doesn’t want to stay —no matter how talented they are.

Coaches aren’t in the business of begging players to get in the gym/go to camps, but if you don’t, then don’t come later looking for playing time. It doesn’t work that way. Players get playing time by earning it. If you don’t earn it, save yourself the trouble of wishing for it!

As an AD, my job is to bring in and retain coaches who can build, develop, and win. At the same time, good coaches want to be in environments where they have a real opportunity to succeed. If a school’s vision does not prioritize winning or fails to provide the tools, support, and structure needed for success, it will struggle to attract and retain high level coaches. Talented coaches are intentional about where they invest their time and energy. Winning is not about cutting corners or doing it at all costs. It is about alignment. When you have strong coaches, the right resources, and a clear commitment to success, those pieces work together. When everyone is not aligned, the culture is poisoned. That alignment is what builds a sustainable, competitive program.

You competed in the darkness. No lights, no crowd, sometimes literally no one watching. You showed up anyway and you figured it out. Give me 10 of those guys and they're worth 50 fancy Ivy League degrees. Every time. The mat doesn't lie.” Thoughts?
