"The danger of the intellectual is that he lives in a world of words and concepts, which are much cleaner and easier to manage than reality. He mistakes his own aesthetic satisfaction with an idea for moral virtue". Iris Murdoch

“the movement he(#GeorgeSorel) inspired was novel in its vision…especially with the recognition of alternative paths to a ‘society of heroes’ and the possibility of bridging the gaps among a variety of movements engaged in the same pursuit.” 🧐 1/5

“It's actually the people who love ideas, abstraction, and information who are the most susceptible.”
Haven't note posted in a while but I recently had a conversation with someone about how believing people can change sexes can't come from anyone that isn't "stupid." It's actually the people who love ideas, abstraction, and information who are the most susceptible. How do you come to believe men can become women and vice versa? To hold a decision so antithetical to reality? Well it doesn't come as the first choice, it comes as a natural consequence of understanding or believing something "more complicated" or profound such that the foundational belief of sex can't hold what is touted as something brilliant anymore. So, it's done away with abstractly. You can keep the idea of sex essentialism as an existing concept while also negating its value as something to be upheld as an infinite truth. And there you have the smart person's version of denying reality through something "higher and more perceptive." This is basically what is referred to as "Aufheben." Higher understanding comes from recreationally complex analysis - the same mechanism that can make you understand complex things can also make you UN-understand basic realities. It's like an obsession with understanding perfectly, of which, as you can see here, is extremely fun and addictive to people who love ideas.

🧵 on Gloria #LadsonBillings, the primary source for bringing #CRT into the field of education. You know, #CriticalRaceTheory that so many super honest & super smart people have repeatedly liked to claim doesn’t even exist outside of Law Schools. 1/19

Ladson-Billing and Tate (1995) laid out an argument for applying CRT to K-12 education, and Ladson-Billings followed up that argument in 1998. Yes, she wrote about CRP, and has advocated for CRT.

The main function of Critical Pedagogues is to act as Cultural Therapists with their students as the “patient”. #Freire called this therapeutic act, “conscientization”, #Brameld was more direct in his naming, calling it “anthropotherapy”
