"We are in need of a missiological agenda for theology rather than just a theological agenda for mission." ~ David Bosch
Too often, theology is developed in the classroom and then applied to mission, as if mission were simply one program of the church. Bosch insists the opposite. God's mission (Missio Dei) is the starting point. If God is already at work reconciling all things, then theology's task is to discover, discern, describe, and join that work.
A "missiological agenda for theology" means we don’t ask, "How does mission fit into what we already believe?" but rather, "How must our beliefs, practices, and structures be reshaped because God is a sending, missionary God?"
In other words, mission isn't an add-on to theology. Instead, mission ought to be the lens, or organizing principle (or vision), for theology.
