Tomorrow is Motherās Day.
If you want to understand the birth rate decline, I implore you, go on TikTok tomorrow.
Itās become an annual train wreck I absolutely cannot look away from. Women, en masse, log on in tears to record how badly their day went - it usually involves being ignored by their husbands/kids, not being given presents, or having to do things for their MIL instead of the day being solely about them.
It used to come across as weird, narcissistic, and extremely sensitive to me, Iām not going to lie. BUT when Iām being generous I step back and realize that it points to a larger epidemic.
These women feel entirely unseen, unimportant, and disregarded in their day to day lives so they NEED this day to make up for it. And when it doesnāt theyāre in shambles and go to the internet for support.
This and its cultural effect will be studied by future anthropologists.
