Here we go.
🇩🇪🇮🇹🇪🇺 Germany has formally rejected UniCredit's takeover bid for Commerzbank. Berlin argues the offer undervalues the bank and threatens the independence of one of Germany's key banks. Once again, the hypocrisy of Europe's national leaders on display: they complain endlessly about fragmented capital markets, underinvestment and the lack of banking champions capable of competing globally. Then, when consolidation actually arrives, national interests suddenly take precedence.

We live in an incredibly stupid world where politicians skip a parliament sessions to participate in reality TV programs and then tell the exasperated audience that the experience helps them be better at... at what exactly? Being a cringe millennial? yle.fi/a/74-20231974

I hate millennials so much it's unreal. An incredibly unserious generation. Can you imagine how easy it is to manipulate someone with so little impulse and desire control that they can't resist the invitation to a reality TV programme?

I've always that that Iceye is Finland's coolest startup and it's nice to see them do so well. Growing fast, very profitable, very cool tech. Very impressive. hs.fi/visio/art-200001206654…

I enjoy watching this newest Rydman escalation because it's the umpteenth case that reveals where the real power and thus priorities lie. Kokoomus even turned down abolishing the inheritance tax to protect QUANGOs. I need more popcorn.

Finland is too centralised, been saying that for years.
In some countries the capital city carries more weight than in others...

Watched the first part of the Lord of the Rings for the first time since I was a kid. Oh god the Nazgul are stupid and useless. I almost pity Sauron.

They are immortal, have poisonous swords and monstrous warhorses but they can't find a hobbit hiding 10cm below them, can't search more than one house and then they lose 6 vs. 1 against Aragorn. Sauron's clown troupe.

The obvious solution is an easier version of Latin.
It would obviously be beneficial for the EU to have one unified language for important, time-sensitive deals, and only English makes sense. Wasting two years to resolve translation differences is inefficient and anti-growth; the French and Italians are being dumb nationalists.

Fascinating how much mileage people are getting out of Musk's net worth. I can't think of anything less interesting.

And now imagine they do this with any of the other software we depend on.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

It was bad but the crash was a result of too fast financial deregulation. Everyone speculated their shirts away. Even the Communist Party lost its possessions.

This is the correct policy but according to polite opinion it's not us immigrants who have to put the effort to learn, it's "society's" responsibility to spend money on courses and other gibs and there may absolutely be no expectations. hs.fi/pkseutu/art-2000012069…

The deal must be this: "Welcome to Finland, glad to have you. You must absolutely learn Finnish, there is no way around that. If you don't want to do that, there is the door." Applied to everyone. Highly educated "certainly English must be enough" snobs as well.

You can have a more homogenous society with lax laws and low expectations or a multicultural one with strong laws and high expectations. Everything has a price. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.
